Remembering the ones who have gone before us ....

Recently I was on FB with a friend who knew Ek Kok. She was relating to me her shock and sadness in finding out from me that our friend has passed away on 18/8/2010. She told me Ek Kok was her "bodyguard" when she was teaching at Sam Tet Primary. Gosh, 2 years have gone by since he passed away. I was wondering if any of you (Boon Chee, Kong Ho?) has had any contact with his family in Singapore and that if there was any memorial service held that day?

This friend of mine also told me another one of our Lower Six (1979) friends has just passed away .... I was not able to place her name to the face when the news was related to me and so I did some research ....

Cheong Fong Chin passed away some time in late July this year. I am wondering if any of you knew of her passing and that you might have some thing to share on this site ..... All the same we are sorry that another life has expired at such a young age......

It was a sunny morning on Saturday 21/8/2010 when we sent Ek Kok off. Members from the budhhist group were there.

Our classmates that turned up were AuChee, Jeff, Kong Ho and wife, Yee Hong, Seng Kian,Philip, and Chun Ngan who came all the way from Butterworth.

Yeah, 22nd Aug was his b'day. In fact, he had planned to meet us one more time by inviting us to his new residence for house warming. According to the youngest sister, Serena, since our met up last year, EK were indulging to go over all the photos we posted frequently.

He would tirelessly introducing us to his family from the photos and felt joyful. He looked forward most to our scheduled gatherings and at times called me numerously to confirm.
A simple, but honest, hounorable, intelligent, silently hard working, kind and wisdomised soul he was. Together with his family, we will miss him for a long time.

Serena asked me to thank you , on her family behalf, those came in these few nites. Thanks also to those who sent in or convey their condolences. Chan Chee Leong (S2) from Canada called to KM to convey his condolence. Ooi Boon Hock called from B'worth. Friends from S2 have called in as well.

Sri Petaling Gathering June 11 as reported by Ek Kok

Ek Kok : It took me close to 2 hours to get to Sri Petaling on Thursday. I left my office slightly after 6pm. may be about 6.20 pm. I arrived at Sri Petaling at 8.10 pm.

I received a call from Leong Chee Hoong at 8.05pm. He told me he was just out from his office. He would join us in next round.

The dinner was attended by Philip. Boon Chee Yee Hong. Kong Ho. Au Chee. myself and Fook Kheong. Chun Ngan arrived KL at about 9 plus. Despite "thirsty". he could not get taxi from Makhota Cheras to join us for drink. So 7 of us went 2nd round at Golden Sun. Assured all readers. All uncles were well behaved. nothing hanky panky.

It was a great evening. we listened to each others "stories". Many great moments of "sharing" without inhibitions.

We intend to call for gathering again. All of us agreed it would be good to hold it on Friday evening. No rush. Everybody is relaxed. Sat and Sun usually are rest days.

Photos may be problematic. Kong Ho informed that his camera developed some problems. Photos may be "irrecoverable". We cannot show readers how we finished a bottle of EXTRA XO (personal treasure contributed by Boon Chi). a very good liquor. We had good time at Yee Hong's house. drinking his "china made gong chiew for emperor" that smell like pungent ?????. Fook Kheong and Taukeh Jeffrey knew how it tasted. ( 中国皇帝公蕉 ?? 哎呀...你地班gay佬，搞咩野啊 ?? ) ( Fook Keong & Jeffrey 知道咩味道 ??..... Wah Lau Er ! )

Captain : Ai Ya ! Ek Kok, Why you no ask Boon Chee to take the camera meh ! He got bring camera for all the past gatherings mah. But anyway, it's the same lah, even Boon Chee got camera, he won't be able to upload it until 1 or 2 months later.

Tali : 江湖大佬，你干样行走江湖，唔点喔 ！Problem 啦 ！我地点样帮captain交代啊 ?

KEE MUN: I think this bunch of monkeys had something 唔敢show in the photos and so they used a lousy excuse the camera was broken!

Ipoh Mari Again ..... 2 May 2009

Kee Mun, Tali, Jeffrey Ong, Atari Wong, met with Ek Kok in Ipoh on 2 May 2009 night. Last I know I was connected to Ek Kok via Skype. I had a long chat with our friend and I appreciate his openness and time for me. Ek Kok, I can't say more than "you are strong" and "thank you for sharing"..... Here are two Skype snaps I took. I have no doubt KM and Tali will send me more photos and maybe a brief report.

Thanks for the time and food at Royal Perak Golf Club, Ipoh Old Town Coffee, char koey teow at Gunung Rapat, and the breakfast at Ipoh Garden South.

Kee Mun / Captain - thanks for the SKYPE and the long distance call on my health issue. I hope to handle it well. No worry from all.

Fook Kheong - Owe you an apology. I should have called you before driving to Ipoh on my own.

Chun Ngan - So surprise to see you for the 1st time after 30 years. I was about to depart Ipoh for KL. Kee Mun told us to wait. He just received your call that you are at Simpang Pulai exit. You really caught all of us by surprise. We sure will catch up with each others for the "lost time".
