Shoe boxes are great to me because I store my old pictures, photos and memorabilia in them. I still have my old Scout proficiency badges in one of the boxes, for example.... I look at them a few times a year and not surprisingly my mind wonders back to when the photos were taken, what could have been if I had done certain things differently.....
Where are your shoe boxes? Have you looked into their contents lately? If you have some treasures I would like you to share them with us!
It was a "popular" thing for us school kids to keep a passport size photos of class mates. We used to exchange photos during Forms 3 and 5. Do you remember that practice? What is interesting to me are also the words written behind the photos by these individuals. Some were meaningful. Some were XXXX. From left to right in the uploaded shot above I detail their comments as follows:-
KC Mak - It says " Bye, goodbye, bye-bye.....I just want to said good bye....."
KC Mak again - A little funkier. The words written on the photo were $500,000 WANTED!
Ng Chun Mun - 一路顺风
Chin Yong Yong - 身心愉快 Yong2 头1975-5-9 (That is some 33 years ago)
This other pic was of me riding a bike just outside our former Ipoh house..... Biking was popular, remember? We used to ride a bike to school, and for school activities. The more well-to-do rode "cub jai" .....
In this photo I can see Weng Wah, Chen Kim Wah, Khoo Tuck Ming, Chun Mun, Yuet Fai, Tong Leong, Siew Fook Kheong, Seng Kian and Ah Hor.
This is my Standard 6 photo. Not sure. Maybe Remove Class?
I was fascinated by martial arts in my teens and I was a keen Tae Kwon Do practitioner
Yes, the more2 well-to-do drove to school.
ReplyDeleteSP, at your sister's place on christmas day, your mum asked me whether I remember seeing her driving you & brothers to school...of course & later you drove to school...
I almost ask her whether she know that instead of driving to school...at our year end final exam in lower 6, (we the few who were coming to australia, did not sit for the exams)..and you, in school uniform and the car, instead of going to school, TUANG SCHOOL.. came to my place for hiding (I was renting at nearby National Garden)for the few school hours till end of school period...REMEMBER ??
thats a rather idiosyncratic habit, or a tradition, to put things in the shoe box..but do glad you found them...as for me i lost a lots of stuff moving around 4 countries..actually i have more photo to share but meantime only a couple to just to excite you guys..this is my gift..
ReplyDeletehave fun digging up lost memories...
$500,000.00 is an under-statemented!..ha..maybe thats how much i wanted...well what i written pretty reflect my life attitude...i am always conscious of my next good-bye...life is a series of goodbye...its what do between the goodbyes thats makes each goodbye meaningful..
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have with me now any old photos of year of form 5 & before that, I have no idea where I put them. I was lodging here & there during upper secondary years and the few months after MCE exam, during those mobile period..could have put all the old stuff at Grick house or my uncle's house in Ipoh. I do have photos of lower six because they were still with me at the time I left for aus.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you have a lot of old photos KC, still remember you were very keen on taking photograph at one stage, infact some with me in it as well...and your favorate at that time HELEN REDDY posters everywhere in your room...and later in electronics and sound system..still remember the home made amplifier & speaker, and you did make one set for me as well...We did hang around together outside school hours for quite a number of years, didn't we ?
I can't help but feel all the philosophical stuff coming out of you....
ReplyDeleteDii Hwan at one stage also a very keen photographer, weren't you ? Still remember you have a "hai-aw" brand camera...also we did hang around together outside school hours for quite a number of years from remove to beginning of form 4, didn't we ? we started off playing table tennis together...
ReplyDeleteKF your memory is astoundingly good.........
ReplyDeleteMy memory of you Seong Pin, that I was together with you guys outside school hours a few times...all were about picking girls....of cause you the leader & front man..& I was just a follower
ReplyDelete............ Good one. I know they called me 牛皮 for a specific reason. I wonder why??
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it..infact up to now I also have not heard of the reason, did you get that name at primary school time or later ? Why don't we post the question to the members...I am really curious now.
ReplyDeleteHope to see the answer tomorrow...good nite
Actually I know the reason why... They thought I was think-skinned or persistent towards certain things especially the fairer sex....

ReplyDeletemost of the nicknames was formulated in primary 6 especially by mdm yip.. i think SP's one was formulated when she was decribing how we are so 顽皮we are and even beyond spanking control...as the skin is so thick like 牛皮...dont think there was any sexual content in this one...teoh seng kean will know the truth..he was the first one started calling SP by that name...
ReplyDeleteThe photo 2nd from bottom as standard 5 trip to KL. Class 5A and (叶老师-鸭嘴) and 5B(徐特庆老师)went together。
ReplyDeleteThe photo was taken in Zoo Negara. I was standing far right. I could only name two other persons. Ya, we were young once upon a time.
